Microsoft’s Business Central is set to revolutionise the way businesses operate with its 2025 Wave 1 update. This update, part of Microsoft’s twice-yearly release cycle, is built around feedback from real users across various industries and roles. The focus is on usability, automation, AI, and reporting, aiming to enhance the overall business impact.
The update is driven by four main themes:
These themes are designed to address the evolving needs of businesses and provide them with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive market.
One of the standout features of the update is the Generative AI & Microsoft Copilot tool. This tool offers capabilities such as auto-fill for Customers, Vendors, and Items, and suggested Power BI (PO) line matching. It also includes a Sales Order Agent and the ability to summarise and interact with Copilot, making it easier for businesses to manage their operations efficiently.
The update brings significant improvements in reporting and data management. Businesses can now explore improvements in Excel reports, enjoy a new report layout editing UI, and access embedded Power BI reports by role. Additionally, a data analysis mode for non-reporting users has been introduced, making it easier for everyone in the organisation to access and analyse data.
Enhancements in UI & Usability are also a key part of the update. These include improved eDocument processing, resizable fact boxes, better navigation between records, and updates to action bar alignment for consistency. These improvements are designed to make the user experience more intuitive and efficient.
The update also focuses on supply chain management, with functionalities related to process control and error correction, visibility, and connected execution. Businesses can now enable order picking on production orders, attach documents to production orders, and reopen finished production orders, among other features.
The update introduces Axis Components, a mid-sized manufacturer, and outlines the business challenges they face and the opportunities with Business Central Wave 1 2025. The presentation includes a flowchart diagram illustrating the integration of various business processes with a central Business Central Unified System Core 6.
The update also highlights role-specific features for Procurement Specialists, Finance Administrators, Production Supervisors, and Sales Account Managers. These features are designed to address common challenges faced by these roles and provide them with the tools they need to perform their tasks more efficiently.
The unified process platform offered by the update promises faster operational flow, fewer manual corrections, stronger customer execution, and time redirection to value work. This means that businesses can expect to see significant improvements in their overall efficiency and productivity.
