Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) has transformed their reporting and tracking of QI initiatives using BCN’s EasySPC
HUTH adopted EasySPC to improve reporting. They had initially used the traditional RAG (Red, Amber, Green) approach but transitioned to SPC (Statistical Process Control) charts to enable them to better identify sustained improvements and declines.
EasySPC is BCN’s very own Microsoft Certified Power BI custom visual that enables users to create Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts using their own data. EasySPC helps organisations use SPC to monitor process variation, enabling faster identification and more targeted action of potential bottlenecks in processes and operational activities.
The intuitive interface and customisable options were key to HUTH choosing EasySPC, as well as the premium features that aligned with the Trust’s needs. Also, conforming with national methodologies such as Making Data Count (MDC) enabled them to keep consistency with reporting.

Prior to adopting EasySPC, Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) used the traditional RAG (Red, Amber, Green) ratings in identifying sustained improvements or declines, with lack of context a limitation of the methodology.
The previous reporting process was very manual and Excel based. This meant analysts would spend a significant time manually creating charts then not have the time to review those charts.
BCN’s EasySPC software was the solution. It helps organisations use SPC to monitor process variation, enabling faster identification and more targeted action of potential bottlenecks in processes and operational activities.
For Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH), the premium features such as the ability annotate on data points and recalculate your limits were key to providing the value they were looking for. HUTH also had the Spotlight feature add-on, giving the Trust a single overview of performance across their multiple indicators.
Since using EasySPC, HUTH has had positive feedback from both the board and the national teams regarding the quality of their reporting, enabling them to be more informative and actionable.
John also mentioned that EasySPC has enabled a significant time saving for Analysts using the tool due to the automating of the reporting and allowing them to analyse the data instead of spending a significant amount of time purely pulling the data together.
