Lawyer Checker is an online, market-leading fraud prevention service, developed by Dye and Durham for the conveyancing industry. Their online checks allow lawyers to gather further information to protect against fraud when transmitting funds to clients or from one conveyancer to another.
As their customer base grew, Lawyer checker needed a database structure to allow the business to develop a risk algorithm to help ensure account numbers were safe and had a track record of use. The team chose BCN to help develop a bespoke application built on ASP.NET, to deliver a solution that now handles over 8,000 searches a month.

Chris Harris, Managing Director of Lawyer Checker, created the business in 2010 after identifying there was an increasing amount of fraud in the conveyancing market. Firms are exposing themselves to significant financial risk and potential brand damage by not thoroughly checking where they are sending money prior to a transaction.
“We recognised there was need for a tool to help solicitors protect client money,” said Chris. “I needed a database structure which enabled me to capture solicitors’ account numbers. This would allow us to create a risk algorithm that verified the safety and usage history of the account numbers receiving the funds.”

BCN partnered with Lawyer Checker to create a bespoke software solution. We developed a fully customised ASP.Net application platform that delivers the rules engine and processes results for more than 8,000 searches monthly. This solution offers an end-to-end platform for the business, covering everything from placing search orders to fulfilling them, invoicing, and reporting.
BCN worked with Lawyer Checker to develop a system that offers a quick and easy way for them to reduce financial and reputational risk. For a fixed price, conveyancers will now be able to run a check on the client account to help verify that the firm is legitimate.
From the first days of operation, Lawyer Checker selected Microsoft Office 365 as their platform of choice, including adopting a ‘Microsoft First’ policy. The flexibility of Microsoft Office 365 licensing has allowed them to expand their licences at the same pace as their business growth.
Lawyer Checker’s use of Microsoft applications range from Microsoft Azure, Office 365, SharePoint, Skype for Business, Power BI, to Microsoft Azure SQL. They are looking to improve upon their already extensive use of Microsoft products by developing bespoke Office 365 CRM applications and BCN will be assisting in the integration of their main business solution with Dynamics CRM.
