BCN Podcast: Cyber Security Series, episode 3

Host Peter Filitz, Head of Business Development at BCN is joined by Emma Portlock, Security Sales Specialist at BCN and Matt Lovell, CEO of CloudGuard AI for episode three of the BCN Cyber Security Podcast.

In the latest episode of the BCN podcast, host Peter Filitz welcomed cyber security experts Matt Lovell from CloudGuard AI and Emma Portlock from BCN to discuss the ever importance of cyber security, and cover some essential cyber security tips especially during October, which is recognised as Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Introduction to the Experts

Emma Portlock, Sales Specialist for Security at BCN has extensive experience with the Microsoft Suite and is passionate about security. She emphasised the prevalence of security concerns among customers and the need for a focused approach to cyber security.

Matt Lovell, CEO of CloudGuard AI (leaders in automating the Microsoft Sentinel security stack), echoed Emma’s sentiments and stated that every month should be considered Cyber Security Awareness Month. He also highlighted the evolving nature of threats and the importance of proactive measures to mitigate risks.

Debunking Cyber Security Myths

One of the key discussions revolved around the common misconception that businesses are always protected. Matt pointed out that traditional approaches to cyber security, such as endpoint solutions, are no longer sufficient. He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy that includes identity protection and the validation of data authenticity, especially with the rise of AI-generated content.

The Role of Microsoft in Cyber Security

Emma provided valuable insights into Microsoft’s significant investments in their security services stack. She explained how Microsoft’s security suite has evolved over the years, transforming from a basic offering to a robust, integrated set of solutions. Emma highlighted the seamless integration of Microsoft Sentinel and the importance of a multi-layered approach to security.

The Importance of a Security Operations Centre (SOC)

The podcast also delved into the role of a Security Operations Centre (SOC) in providing proactive monitoring and support. Emma and Matt discussed how a SOC brings together data from various technology stacks, analyses it in real-time, and offers 24/7 support to businesses. This approach ensures that threats are detected and mitigated promptly, reducing the risk of data breaches and other security incidents.

Key Takeaways for Businesses

As Cyber Security Awareness Month unfolds, the focus is on managing and protecting data within businesses, especially with the increasing use of AI tools. Businesses must review their security postures, optimise their existing tools, and consider investing in a SOC service for comprehensive protection.

As threats continue to evolve, staying informed and prepared is crucial for safeguarding valuable data and maintaining trust with customers.
